Japanese conjugations are perceived to be simpler than other languages. Here are examples from Dr. Power’s study

kaku/kakimasu: (I, you, he, they) write
kakanai/kakimasen: don’t write
kaite iru/kaite imasu: am writing
kaite inai/kaite imasen: am not writing
kaita/kakimashita: wrote
kakanakatta/kakimasen deshita: did not write
kaite ita/kaite imashita: was writing
kaite inakatta/kaite imasen deshita: was not writing
kakitai: want to write
kakitakunai: don’t want to write
kakitakatta: wanted to write
kakitakunakatta: didn’t want to write
