Traditional Chinese values are often called Confucian values because they came from the philosopher Confucius. These values emphasize being loyal to your family, husband or wife, country and friends as well as filial piety, or showing respect to parents, older relatives, and ancestors. Honesty and trustworthiness are also valued in China.
The Chinese also have a value called “face” which is a lot like having a good reputation. It is a very bad thing to lose face in China, and also to cause others to lose face. The best ways to not lose face are to live a good, honest life, to be good to others and to make smart decisions.
